The term generative can refer to a process that is executed computationally. Based on a set of rules and parametric changes, outputs are generated iteratively. Outputs here can be of many types and origins.

In this workshop we have focus on typography as an output informed and transformed by code and change over time.

How can we build systems in code to create generative type? Through a series of exercises exploring the generative, dynamic and playful potential of type, we have created a series of digital outputs presented in this online showcase.

The MILF Series

Introducing The MILF series, where "Man, I Love Frogs" comes to life. Here in this digital space, I'm diving into the basics of p5.js to share my genuine love for frogs. Every stroke and animation in the series is my way of expressing how much I adore these little amphibians. Using lively movements and bright colors, I've tried to capture why frogs are so lovable to me. It's not just about showing off coding skills; this project is a personal journey of turning my love for frogs into pixels. As I explore the world of p5.js, the MILF series is my way of showing the fun, humor, and creativity that happens when coding becomes a way to express passion and excitement.

Sketches

Diving headfirst into the world of p5.js as a first-time coder, my lack of coding experience cast a feeling of hesitation. If I could share advice with my beginner self before I start this coding workshop, it would be to approach creative coding with an open mind. The module was filled with a series of surprises and oftentimes, the final sketch bore little resemblance to original sketch. As a beginner, my challenge wasn't just about the rules, it was figuring out how to turn ideas into code. The workshop shifted my goal from copying designs quickly to exploring coding more deeply. Through ups and downs, the journey made coding simpler, boosting my strength and sparking lasting curiosity and confidence. Now, with my coding toolkit, I'm ready to pick up a simple p5.js file and create something crazy out of it. Today, I stand not just at the threshold of my biggest win is being able to easily recreate sketches from this website. Understanding them during coding has truly paid off.
